The European capital, Brussels, is holding a cultural charity event on Saturday 9 November, to collect funds for children charities in Cyprus. The various associations fight for the improvement of the lives of vulnerable children and families across the island. The main acts have all been Eurovision Song Contest participants.
Anna Vissi represented Greece in 1980 with the song Autostop and reached the 13th spot, in 1982 as a solo artist for Cyprus and finished 5th with Mono i agapi. Finally, she entered a third time the competition in 2006 but this time under the Greek flag again and finished 9th with Everything.
Constantinos Christoforou represented Cyprus in 1996 and finished 9th with Mono Yia Mas and in 2005 with Ela ela. Anna Vissi and Constantinos Christoforou have collaborated together on several occasions in the past. Constantinos sang on Anna Vissi highly successful album Travma in 1997 which became the biggest selling album of the year and he embarked on a tour with her in Greece, Cyprus and also Australia, known for its important Greek community. In 1999, Constantinos became the leader of the band ONE and represented Cyprus at the 2002 Eurovision Song Contest achieving a 6th place with the song Gimme. He also collaborated with Anna Vissi for the second time on the album Paraxenes Eekones. In 2009 he tried to enter the contest again but finished 2nd of the Cypriot national selection.
Despina Olympiou represented Cyprus at this year’s contest with her song An Me Thimase and is a highly successful Cypriot musical export and has performed around the world in her career.
The event is organised under the patronage of Androulla Vassiliou, the current European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Multilingualism and Youth.
The concert called Cyprus Unplugged, also features recitals of Cypriot poetry and will take place at famous Brussels venue BOZAR (Salle Henry Le Bœuf) on 9 November 2013 at 20.30 local time.
