For the first time in history, all five members of 1981 Eurovision Song Contest winners, Bucks Fizz, came together to record a charity song promotional video. Original band members, Mike Nolan, Bobby Gee, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston came together with Jay's replacement, Shelley Preston to record the video for comedian Peter Kay's Comic Relief single, 500 miles.
It now seems that Peter Kay's genius has put an end to one of the longest running feuds in the United Kingdom pop industry. Jay Aston left the group in acrimonious circumstances following the band's near fatal coach crash in 1984 and an affair with a member of the band's management team, and had not spoken to fellow her former band members for many years.
Shelley explains on her website, "It was an extremely emotional and somewhat strange day. There was an air of awkwardness at first it has to be said, before Cheryl arrived – for many reasons given that Jay and Cheryl hadn't spoken in years and of course I myself had never met my predecessor ever – and it was really good to meet her".
"Talking about the filming, Shelley says "The filming was great fun we had a lot of laughs and afterwards, once changed back into our day clothes we chatted and drank a toast to this momentous occasion. We talked about our kids, and looked at each others photo's of our kids".
And of course, answering the question that every Bucks Fizz fan wants to hear: "I won't deny that some of us DID discuss the possibility of the ultimate Bucks Fizz show with all 5 members on stage together… who knows what will happen… you never know".
