TMC, the Monegasque national broadcaster has informed and confirmed to Esctoday.com that Monaco will not be returning to the Eurovision Song Contest next year. Hence Monaco and TMC will not compete at the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen, Denmark. The last time Monaco competed at the Eurovision Song Contest was in 2006 with Severine Ferrrer’s Coco dance.
Monaco debuted at the Eurovision ong Contest in 1959 and has won the event in 1971 with Severine’s Un banc, un arbre, une rue. Monaco didn’t host the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest and the BBC was asked to host the event, hence Edinburgh hosted the 1972 Eurovision Song Contest.
In 1980 Monaco decided to withdraw from the contest and was absent for 25 years until 2004 when the country returned to the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest with Maryon’s Notre planete . Monaco competed at the 2004, 2005 and 2006 editions of the Eurovision Song Contest, the country failed to qualify for the final on all 3 occasions and decided to withdraw from the competition in 2007 and has not returned since.
Monaco joins Morocco, Luxembourg, Slovakia and Andorra all of whom have decided not to return to the Eurovision Song Contest next year. It is very unlikely that Turkey will return to the Eurovision Song Contest. We are still awaiting for Bosnia Herzegovina, Portugal, Czech Republic and Poland to announce their decision regarding their return and participation at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest.
