Jetty Paerl, who was the very first Dutch entrant in 1956, died last week in Amstelveen at the age of 92.

Many Eurovision fans are familiar with Lys Assia who won the first edition of Europe’s Favourite TV Show, but Mrs. Paerl was the very first performer to sing on the Eurovision stage. She represented The Netherlands with De vogels van Holland.

She was born in Amsterdam on 27 May 1921 and moved to London during World War II when The Netherlands was occupied by Nazi Germany. She married Dutch artist Cees Bantzinger.

Jetty died on 22 August at the age of 92 in Amstelveen, The Netherlands.
