Rock n Roll revolutionaries at the Eurovision Song Contest, Wig Wam brought glam rock to the competition for the first time in 2005, a year later, Lordi participated and took the crown in Athens. This week, both bands have been in the United Kingdom, arguably the most hostile of all participating nations when it comes to post-competition success. Not in the case of rock and roll, it seems!

On October 30, 2006, Wig Wam met an extremely enthusiastic audience at Rock City in Nottingham where they for the first time ever played in the U.K. When Glam entered the stage dressed in his striped spandex and Indian feathers he shouted “Nottingham, are you ready to rock?”, and the crowd replied with neverending cheering that made the roof rise.

Wig Wam was in really good shape and the great welcome led to an energic and blistering show. For about an hour the audience was served both new and old songs, and people sang along during the entire concert. The round of applause and the cheering were enormous, Wig Wam had arrived. It was well worth the additional 138 kilos of excess luggage that the band brought from Norway for their first show on UK soil.

With In My Dreams, the song that brought Wig Wam to the Eurovision Song Contest last year, as the very last song, the crowd went crazy, cheering, jumping, dancing and singing along. The band left the stage backed up with enormous applause and cheering. The glam rockers went straight to the merchandise stand for signing until the next band Fair Warning entered the stage. All of Wig Wam’s merchandise was by then sold out.

Many had travelled from far away to see Wig Wam on stage. We talked to two friends who came all the way from Los Angeles, USA. For them Wig Wam was the main attraction and they were definitely not disappointed. “Fantastic” was their immediate comment. “The most amazing performance I’ve seen in years. They are my favourite band”.

Wig Wam were (and still are) overwhelmed by the audience’s response. “This was a really fun”, Flash said after the show. The usual talkative Glam was touched and humble. “We didn’t expect such a response”, he said quietly. “It was really fun to be on stage today”, Teeny said and added “The audience were fantastic, they knew all our songs”. “Exceptional”, Sporty chaimed in happily.

Later that night Wig Wam spent time among the audience and they received lots of congratulations and nice words. There were a lot of people who wanted to talk to the popular glam rockers. This is certain not to be Wig Wam's last performance in the United Kingdom…
