SMRTV San Marino, the Sammarinese national broadcaster has confirmed to esctoday.com  that Valentina Monetta will represent San Marino at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Denmark next year.

Hence we have the very first Eurovision candidate for Eurovision 2014. We must also note that it is the very first time a country has announced their candidate 11 months prior to the contest, hence it is the earliest announcement on record.

After the 2013 Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo, Sweden the Director of SMRTV revealed his wish to invite Valentina Monetta once again to represent San Marino.

A pre agreement was signed today at the SMRTV headquarters in San Marino by Valentina Monetta,Mr. Ralph Siegel (producer and composer)Mr. Fabrizzio Raggi ( artistic director) and Mr. Carlo Romeo ( Director of SMRTV). Mr. Alessandro Capicchioni ( Head of Delegation of San Marino for Eurovision) was also present during the signing of the accord.

It will be the 3rd consecutive time that Valentina will fly the Sammerinese flag at the Eurovision Song Contest along with Mr. Ralph Siegel.  Valentina represented San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2012 and 2013.

San Marino debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2008 and is yet to win the event. The country has never qualified for the final. On the last 2 occasions San Marino was 14th and 11th in its semifinal. Will Valentina succeed in taking San Marino to the grand final in 2014?
