Helena reaches a US Top Ten chart

After spending eight weeks in Billboards Hot Dance Club Play, Helena Paparizou has now entered the Top Ten with her Eurovision Song Contest winner My number one.

According to Greek music channel Mad TV and Moda Records, Helena Paparizou’s My number one, already in Billboard’s Hot Dance Club Play for eight weeks, is now at number nine. Justine Timberlake with Sexy Back is currently leading the chart, and Beyoncé with Deja Vu is at number eight, one position higher than Helena.

So now, Helena’s song is one of the very few ESC entries to enter any Billboard Top 10. On Billboard's Hot 100 (general) singles chart, previous Eurovision favourites like Gina G's Ooh aah just a little bit (number 12 in 1996) and Abba's Waterloo (number 6 in 1974) have done even better. Domenico Modugno’s Nel blu dipinto di blu (volare) remains the most popular Eurovision single in the US, having hit the number one position 1 back in 1958.

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
