Thor! wins first Belgian semi

8-year-old Thor! has won the first Belgian Eurosong for Kids 2006 semifinal with the song Een tocht door het donker, and is the first act to be secured a place in the Belgian final at the Grenslandhallen in Hasselt on 1st October.

Thor, who is not only the youngest semifinalist, but also the smallest at just 1m 31cm tall, gained 70 points thanks largely to Eén viewers whose votes counted for double those of the jury on Saturday. Lizz@xy won second place only three points behind after a closely-fought round of voting. The full round-up is as follows:

2. 67 points . Lizz@xy – Ik doe wat ik wil
3. 60 points . Attic – Ik doe alle dingen
4. 52 points . Kristel – Zal je ooit
5. 51 points . Suzanne – Zeg het mij

Thor! becomes the first contestant secure of a position in the final of October 1st, along with the winner of next week's second semifinal. After that, the three next best scoring competitors will be awarded the final places.

A highlight of the evening was the presentation of a gold disc to the young artists for presales figures of more than 15,000 copies of the Eurosong for Kids 2006 compilation album.
