Russian song writers can submit their songs for the 51st Eurovision Song Contest to Channel One until 1st March, the broadcaster stated. Although it is not sure if the Russian 2006 participant will be selected internally or in a national selection event, the first option seems likely according to sources close to Channel One.

Later on this month, broadcaster Channel One will reveal more background information about the way its 2006 Eurovision Song Contest entry will be selected. Meanwhile, the national broadcaster relies on the creative minds of song writers, composers and singers to prepare their song for Athens.

Last year, Russia came 15th at the Eurovision Song Contest and thus has to take part in the semifinal of the 2006 edition, which takes place on 18th May in Athens, Greece.
