German multi-camera director Volker Weicker (44) will direct the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest. Host broadcaster ERT announced that. For the past years it was Swedish director Sven Stojanovic taking care of the honourable job.
Earlier this week, ERT announced the German company Procon will produce the 51st Eurovision Song Contest.
Weicker has a broad range of experience. He directed several MTV live shows, Champions League matches, Formula 1, the Oscar awards and the Grammy's. For his coverage of the terror attacks in the US, back in 2001, he won the Special Adolf-Grimme Prize in 2002. At this moment he is particulary involved with directing programmes for German RTL, ZDF and SAT1.
“A life show is simply one kick more than a taped programme”, Weiker says. “No one seems to believe it… but I am never getting nerves”.
