Cyprus will select its 2006 Eurovision Song Contest participant in two semifinals, scheduled on 11th and 12th February, and a final, scheduled to take place on 22nd February. 114 songs were submitted by writers and composers from 20 countries. CyBC is said to announce this in a press conference, tomorrow.

Semifinals will take place in the studios of CyBC, the final will take place at the Eleftheria Stadium in Nicosia. 20 songs will compete, 10 in each semifinal. Five songs per semifinal will qualify for the final. The winner will be elected by televoting.

According to (by the EBU) unconfirmed stories, CyBC proposed the European Broadcasting Union to host the 2007 Junior Eurovision Song Contest, which Moscow also did according to this story. If this appears to be true, Cypriot broadcaster CyBC has all reasons to aim for a high quality show.

Last year, Constantinos Christoforou didn't manage to qualify Cyprus for the final of the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest, which will take place in Athens. Cyprus will have to attend the semifinal on 18th May.
