On Sunday, the first heat of the Belgian selections for the Eurovision Song Contest 2006 takes place. Among the seven contestants is Belgiums 1999 representative Vanessa Chinitor, who will compete with Beyond you, a song written by Philip Vella and Gerard James Borg, composers of the Maltese Eurovision Song Contest entries in 2000, 2002 and 2004. In an interview with Belgovision.com she explained her second bid.

Vanessa Chinitor is looking back at 1999 with a positive feeling. “It was a great experience for me. Because it was so fantastic, I would like to experience this all once again. That's why I participate in Eurosong 2006”. With the song Like the wind, Vanessa finished 12th at the Eurovision Song Contest in Jerusalem. “I was quite satisfied. Of course you always hope for the first place, but we should be realistic. We do live in a small country after all. I was already happy that I was given the opportunity to represent my country”.

For Eurosong 2006, Vanessa Chinitor teamed up with the Maltese songwriters Philip Vella and Gerard James Borg, songwriters of the Maltese entries Desire, 7th wonder and On again off again. “I got in contact with them by e-mail. That's how I started listening to their songs and they really pleased me. Suddenly I heard the song Beyond you and I was immediately sold. It's totally different from Like the wind. It is a very fresh, up-tempo song with a mysterious flavour”.

Vanessa Chinitor is longing for Athens. “I would like to represent my country for a second time. I fully support my song, but we are living in the year 2006 and thus the act isn't unimportant either”. How Vanessas act will look like will be revealed on Sunday 8th January during the first heat of Eurosong 2006.
