At the start of the new year, 2006, the ten finalists for the Opportunity 2 Challenge were announced by the hosts of the evening Moira Delia & Manuel Xuereb during the special edition of Showtime ma' Aceline on Malta's national TV station, PBS-TVM.

The ten entries which made it to the final round from the list of 36 semi-finalists were the following:

13. Is it love – Pauline Briffa
20. I walk the streets alone – Dario Bezzina
24. A bit of magic – Ann Marie Ellul
25. It just comes natural – Josef Tabone/Amanda Farrugia
32. Stay with me – Lara Azzopardi
35. Forever young – Jan Pace

The final will be held on Saturday 7th January at around 20:30 CET, where the two winners will be announced. The winners of the competition will be added to the Malta Song for Europe 2006 list at spot number 4 and 15, thus bringing the number of finalists of this year's Maltese national final to 18. The two winners will be assigned a place in the final according to the alphabetical order of their titles.
