A local weekly magazine published yesterday an interview with the Director General of Cypriot broadcaster CyBC, Marios Mavrikios. He revealed that CyBC unofficially proposed to host the fifth edition of the Junior Eurovision Song Contenst, in 2007.

The proposal was made on the same day Cyprus withdrew from this year's Junior Eurovision Song Contest. Mavrikios commented that this years withdrawal does not mean that Cyprus will not participate in the forthcoming contests.

As for the 2006 Eurovision Song Contest selection, the deadline for submitting songs for the national final expired on 9th December. So far there were no official announcements or press releases, though past rumors indicated that various Greek and Cypriot stars, including Annette Artani and Marina Solonos, submitted songs. A jury will choose a number of songs, that will participate in the 2006 national selection. No date has been set yet.

In 2006, Romania will host the Junior Eurovision Song Contest.
