The most popular Greek music station, MAD Television, reported yesterday that ERT is going to propose Despina Vandi to represent Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest 2006. Not an unlikely move, as Despina Vandi is one of the most respected artists in the Greek music industry

Greek star
Over the last ten years, Despina Vandi has made a name for herself as one of the most famous Greek music acts. She released record-breaking albums like Prophecies and Gia and became the world's best-selling Greek artist at the 2002 world music awards. Her CD single Opa opa is currently on 35th position of the Greek single charts, 9 months after its release. She also entered several European hitlists, among others in the United Kingdom and Germany.

Second try
Despina Vandi was already asked last year to represent Greece, but she didn't as she feared a bad result. Instead of her, Helena Paparizou was chosen. MAD Television tells, that this year Despina Vandi is seriously considering to represent Greece. She will be officially asked in a few days, if she hasn't already. Presumably, the selection would be similar to last year's, when Helena Paparizou was chosen by ERT and the audience had the choice between several songs.

ERT didn't comment the story yet.
