RAI, the Italian national broadcaster has informed and confirmed to Esctoday.com that Italy will compete at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö.

The broadcaster has not officially announced the method and mechanism it will use to select its Eurovision entry and representative for Eurovision 2013. It is most likely that the San Remo Song Festival will be used to select the Italian representative as in previous years.

Italy debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest  in 1956 and was one of the founder members of the contest. The country has won the event 2 times in 1964 and 1990. Italy withdrew from the event in 1998 and returned back in 2011.
