The German part of the Swiss national broadcaster has now closed the song submissions for the internet vote. Currently circa 175 songs are online, and these will now be checked for validity and will go for an online vote in the middle of October. The number will still change after duplicates are removed for example. The submission deadline was extended by a week, but the number is still a little bit down from the 221 last year.

Amongst the song submissions are some Eurovision Song Contest veterans, like the first ever Swiss winner Lys Assia. She has teamed up with rappers New Jack in a song titled All in your head. Behind the song is German veteran composer and producer Ralph Siegel.

Mariella Farré, who sang the Swiss entries at Eurovision before in 1983 and 1985 is trying again with a song entitled One of a kind. Also trying his luck in Switzerland is Gordon, who as a member of The Toppers sang for The Netherlands in 2009. His new group LA The Voices has submitted two songs. Another previous Eurovision artist to try her luck is Magdalena Tul from Poland with a song entitled Give it up. She is currently of course the last person to sing for Poland in 2011, at least for the time being.

From the Swedish hit factory Switzerland has received at least a song from Man Meadow, the duo who also has twice tried their luck to enter for Poland. It can also be noted that Chiara Dubey, who got the third place in the Swiss national final last year is back.

There does not seem to be many big names of the Swiss music scene represented. However, Maya Wirtz, the 50-year-old winner of the Swiss edition of the international Talent-format is there, as well as Leo Ritzmann, who won the German edition of Popstars in 2009. A few more faces are familiar from talent shows in Germany and Switzerland.

One candidate creating a lot of pre-contest buzz has been a group formed from the Swiss branch of the Salvation Army, Heilsarmee. They have entered a song produced by renowned production house Hitmill. You and me is atheir song, and the effort is supported by a website in three languages. And they could also easily break all age records at the Eurovision Song Contest if selected- one member is 94 years old!

Parallel to the audience web vote a jury will deliberate all the submitted songs, and the result will be judged 50/50 by each part. The French and Italian Swiss broadcasters will later add their own entries for the December final, which will be broadcast again from Kreuzingen on 15 December.
