RTVSLO, the Slovenian national broadcaster, has not yet formally submitted its intention to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. The decision regarding Slovenia’s involvement in the competition, set to take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, hinges on the upcoming 2027 Programme-Production Plan.
The excitement for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 is building, with Burgas, Bulgaria, officially confirmed as the host city. However, one nation whose participation remains unconfirmed is Slovenia. RTVSLO, the Slovenian national broadcaster, has revealed it has not yet formally communicated its intention to participate in the upcoming contest to the EBU.
This delay is primarily attributed to the ongoing preparation and adoption of the 2027 Programme-Production Plan (PPN) by RTVSLO. The broadcaster’s final decision on Eurovision 2027 participation is contingent upon the approval of this crucial internal document. Historically, RTVSLO often finalises its Eurovision participation in the autumn, typically aligning with the PPN’s approval.
RTVSLO’s statement reads:
For now, only informative discussions are taking place, with the financial capabilities of the public institution remaining a significant limitation. The EBU and RTV Slovenia will meet regarding participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. For RTV Slovenia, the decision on potential cooperation is tied to the preparation and adoption of the Program and Production Plan for 2027
Financial considerations are also playing a significant role in RTVSLO’s deliberations. The broadcaster has highlighted its financial capabilities as a key limitation in its decision-making process. Slovenia withdrew from Eurovision 2026, and while previous boycotts were linked to geopolitical reasons, financial aspects are now prominently cited for the current uncertainty surrounding 2027.
The RTVSLO Board of Directors are set to convene tomorrow on Wednesday 23rd September in order to discuss its program and production plan for 2027.
RTVSLO has also clarified that it has not requested the EBU for an extension in order to confirm its intention of participation, hence it hasn’t been granted one.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2027 is scheduled to take place in Burgas, Bulgaria, with the Semi-Finals on 11 and 13 May, and the Grand Final on 15 May. The Eurovision community eagerly awaits RTVSLO’s final announcement regarding Slovenia’s participation.
