RTE, the Irish national broadcaster, is yet to determine if it will compete at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Bulgaria.
RTE and Ireland withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest in 2026 due to Israel’s participation in the competition. Yesterday Dutch public broadcaster, AVROTROS, announced that it will not compete at Eurovision 2027 due to Israel’s participation in the contest, and that it was handing back the Dutch Eurovision participation’s responsibility to NPO. NPO can compete at Eurovision with another Dutch public broadcaster if it deems to do so.
In 2026 five countries withdrew from the competition: Ireland, Iceland, Netherlands, Slovenia and Spain. It is yet unclear if any of these countries will return to the competition next year in Burgas.
In the wake of the latest developments The Irish Sun contacted RTE in order to shed more light on Ireland’s participation at Eurovision 2027.
RTE gave The Irish Sun the following statement:
We note the recent changes announced by the EBU regarding the Eurovision Song Contest. RTE will be making a decision regarding its participation in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest in due course.
The deadline for broadcasters to apply to compete at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 is set for mid September, whilst the deadline for broadcasters to withdraw their applications without a penalty is set for mid October.
