The Netherlands 
Dutch national broadcaster, AVROTROS, has withdrawn from competing at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Bulgaria due to Israel’s participation and handed over the responsibility of the Dutch Eurovision participation to the NPO. Wll NPO hand over the right to participate at Eurovision to another Dutch public broadcaster. Will the Netherlands compete at Eurovision 2027 with another broadcaster.
AVROTROS and The Netherlands withdrew from the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 due to Israel’s participation along with four of other countries: Spain, Ireland, Iceland and Slovenia.
But the Dutch audience were able to watch the Eurovision Song Contest 2026 live on NOS/NTR.
The ball is now entirely in the hands of the NPO to determine how it will proceed moving forwards and if it will delegate the Dutch Eurovision participation to another public broadcasters. The following broadcasters are all under the NPO umbrella and thus eligible to compete at Eurovision:
- OMROEP MAX
- KRO-NCRV
- VPRO
- EO
- NTR
- NOS
- BNNVARA
Dutch national broadcaster NOS reports that the NPO respects AVROTROS’ decision not to compete at Eurovision 2027. NPO gave NOS the following statement regarding this matter:
We also see that geopolitical tensions are having a divisive effect. That is why this has not been an easy decision for our colleagues.We are going to reflect on the upcoming edition.
Hence it is yet unclear if the Netherlands will compete at Eurovision 2027 with another broadcaster. NPO declined to comment further to NOS.
We also know that the EBU is currently holding talks with NPO for another Dutch broadcaster to compete at Eurovision 2027. We will have to wait a tad longer to find out if the Netherlands will return to Eurovision 2027 with another broadcaster.
The deadline for broadcasters to apply for competing at Eurovision 2027 has been set for mid September, whilst the deadline to withdraw an application without a penalty has been set to mid-October.
