The highly anticipated Eurovision Song Contest Asia has officially welcomed its first participant! Bhutan is set to make its debut in the inaugural contest, with talented artist Nyendra chosen to represent the nation. He will perform the song ‘Lhayi Semo’ on the grand stage in Bangkok.
Bhutan Makes History with First Eurovision Asia Entry
Bhutan has confirmed its participation in the very first edition of the Eurovision Song Contest Asia, marking a historic moment for the Himalayan kingdom. The Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS) selected Nyendra via a national final, ‘Rhythm of Bhutan’, on August 11, 2026.
Nyendra, a 24-year-old singer-songwriter and producer, won the national selection with his song ‘Lhayi Semo’ (The Angel). The competition featured five acts, with the results determined by a combination of a professional jury (40%), the Bhutanese public (40%), and international public voting (20%).
The Eurovision Song Contest Asia 2026 is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at IdeaLive in Bangkok, Thailand. This inaugural event will see broadcasters from across the Asia-Pacific region compete, bringing the beloved Eurovision format to a new continent.
Bhutan’s early selection of Nyendra and ‘Lhayi Semo’ officially kicks off the national final season for Eurovision Asia, with other participating countries expected to announce their representatives in the coming months. The contest is organised by Voxovation under licence from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), with S2O Productions producing and Thailand’s Channel 3 serving as the host broadcaster.
