The international working group, in collaboration with Bulgarian national broadcaster BNT, is actively continuing its work to select the host city for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. Following Bulgaria’s victory in 2026, the nation is now in the final stages of determining where Europe’s favourite music competition will take place next year.
Sofia and Burgas Remain in Contention
The rigorous evaluation process is ongoing, with two prominent Bulgarian cities, Sofia and Burgas, currently shortlisted as the potential hosts. Both cities have presented strong bids, showcasing their infrastructure and capabilities to stage an event of Eurovision’s magnitude.
Sofia, the capital city, is considered a frontrunner, boasting existing infrastructure, an international airport, and the Arena Sofia (also known as Arena 8888) with a capacity of nearly 18,000 spectators. It also hosted the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015.
Burgas, a vibrant city on the Black Sea coast, has proposed Arena Burgas, a modern facility opened in 2023 with a capacity of up to 15,000 people for concerts. The city highlights its international airport, transport infrastructure, and extensive accommodation options.
The working group’s assessment includes detailed technical specifications of the proposed venues, compliance with EBU requirements, and the cities’ ability to meet the high production standards of the contest. A final decision on the host city and the dates for Eurovision 2027 is expected imminently.
