As Vienna prepares to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, the city ensures the excitement reaches beyond the main arena. A special series of side events, dubbed ‘Häuser zum Leben’ (Houses for Life), brings the Eurovision spirit directly to the community. These events feature engaging sing-alongs led by renowned singer and vocal coach Monika Ballwein, expertly moderated by Eva Pölzl.

Eurovision Excitement for All

The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 in Vienna is set to be an unforgettable event, and the host city is committed to making the celebration inclusive for everyone. ORF and the City of Vienna are organising numerous side events to ensure various target groups can experience the magic of Eurovision. Among these initiatives are the ‘Häuser zum Leben‘ sing-alongs, designed to bring the joy and music of the contest to Vienna’s senior citizens’ homes.

The ‘Häuser zum Leben’ are Vienna’s municipal senior citizens’ residences, providing accommodation, care, and support for older people across 30 locations in 21 districts. This special programme allows residents to immerse themselves in the Eurovision atmosphere right where they live.

Musical Highlights with Austrian Stars

Leading these vibrant sing-along sessions is Monika Ballwein, an Austrian singing icon and vocal coach with a deep connection to the Eurovision Song Contest. She has participated in Eurovision five times for Austria, both as a backing singer and as a vocal coach for winning acts like Conchita Wurst in 2014. Her expertise guarantees a truly engaging musical experience.

Alongside Ballwein, popular Austrian moderator Eva Pölzl hosts the events, ensuring a lively and interactive atmosphere. Pölzl is also no stranger to Eurovision, having presented Austria’s televoting in 2007. Together, they guide participants through a repertoire of Eurovision classics, including hits like ‘Rise Like A Phoenix’, ‘Congratulations’, ‘Love Shine A Light‘, and ‘Insieme‘, all embodying the contest’s powerful motto, ‘United by Music‘.

In addition to beloved Eurovision anthems, the sing-alongs feature a special tribute to Austrian legend Udo Jürgens, with classics such as ‘Merci, Chérie‘ and ‘Mit 66 Jahren‘, adding a touch of national pride to the international celebration.

The 2026 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held at the Wiener Stadthalle on the 12, 14 and 16 May in Vienna.
