GPB, the Georgian national broadcaster, has unveiled the 2025 Georgian Eurovision hopeful and act and entry today.

Mariam Shengalia will have the grand honour of defending the Georgian colours at the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel with her entry ‘ Freedom‘.

Marima Shengalia was selected via an internal selection in order to represent Georgia at ESC 2025. The 2025 Georgian Eurovision entry was composed by Keti Gabisiani  and penned by Buka Kartozia.

Mariam shot to fame in Georgia when she partook on the X Factor Georgia talent show and gained much name, fame and recognition when she competed at the The Voice Georgia. She is also a member of the Georgian band Mixtura.

Mariam was going to step the Eurovision stage in 2020 as a backing vocalist to Tornike Kipiania in Rotterdam, but the competition was cancelled due to the COVID 19 pandemic. Five years later she will have the grand honour of flying the Georgian flag with her entry’ Freedom’ at ESC 2025.

Georgia will be represented at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest by the talented 22-year-old Mariam Shengelia.

Eighteen Georgian artists expressed interest in participating in the competition, submitting an array of their works. The GPB First Channel also received contributions from over 20 foreign composers. The Public Broadcaster ultimately selected a project rich in Georgian motifs and national elements, designed to showcase our country’s cultural identity on the international stage.

Mariam Shengelia has participated in two GPB First Channel projects—”Georgia’s Star” and “The Voice.” She also served as a backing vocalist for Tornike Kipiani, Georgia’s entrant at Eurovision 2020, a competition ultimately cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The song “Freedom,” which she will perform, was penned by Keti Gabisiani, with lyrics by Buka Kartozia. Kakha Bukhrashvili directed the music video, with costume design by Iza Nadareishvili. The artistic direction of the video was a collaborative effort by Shako Popiashvili and Nino Tsulaia. The project also features dancers from the State Song and Dance Ensemble “Erisioni” and the Gia Kancheli Tbilisi Youth Orchestra.

Georgia in Eurovision

Georgia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007 with Sopho Khalvashi’s Visionary dream and is yet to win the competition. The country achieved its best results in the contest in Oslo (2010) and Dusseldorf (2011) when it placed 9th in the Grand Final.

Georgia has competed 16 times in Europe’s favorite television show, the country has partaken in the event every year since their debut in 2007 with the exception of 2009 when the nation opted to stay out of the competition.

In 2024 Nutsa Buzaladze represented Georgia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo with her entry ‘Firefighter’.
