In the wake of the latest developments in Moldova and TRM’s withdrawal from the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2025, ESCToday reached out to the EBU for a statement regarding this matter.

Moldova has decided to withdraw from Eurovision 2025 due to economic, artistic and administrative challenges and has cancelled its national selection for Basel.

ESCToday contacted the EBU in order to shed more light on this issue and we got the following statement:

Martin Osterdahl ( Eurovision Song Contest Executive Supervisor) says:

We’re sorry that TRM of Moldova have decided not to participate in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. We will miss you! We’re pleased that viewers in Moldova will still get to watch the shows on TRM and very much hope to welcome them back next year.

Hence we will see 37 countries competing at Eurovision 2025 after Moldova’s withdrawal and 31 countries will be partaking in the semi-finals this year.

We expect Moldova to be back at Eurovision next year. TRM will be broadcasting the three ESC 2025 live shows next May.

Moldova debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and has been competing in the contest every year since its debut.
