RTVSLO, the Slovenian national broadcaster, has unveiled the EMA 2025 hosts and released further details on the Slovenian national final.

Raiven ( Slovenia 2024) and Štras will have the grand honour of hosting the forthcoming Slovenian national final EMA 2025 on Saturday 1 February 2025.

Raiven says:

Hosting EMA gives me the responsibility to connect the event with people who follow it with great expectations and passion. The thought of EMA brings me a lot of nostalgia. I have experience as a performer and as a host, so above all I want EMA to be a stage where music and creativity meet without unnecessary criticism and pressure.

Gregor Strasbergar aka Stras says:

The thought of hosting Ema doesn’t give me much pleasure yet, but more stress.Half the country will probably spit on me, but fortunately they will spit on our new representative more.

A total of 12 acts will battle for the golden ticket to Basel at EMA 2025. RTVLO will broadcast a special show on Saturday 25 January in order to unveil the EMA 2025 competing entries. All competing acts will be present in this special show.

RTVSLO’s press release reads:

As is known, we will get the Eurovision song on February 1st, and the last Saturday in January (January 25th) will be dedicated to Ema, or Eurovision, when the special show Ema pred Ema will be broadcast. In it, hosts Bernarda Žarn and Jože Robežnik will host all the performers of this year’s selection, who will premiere a short excerpt of their competition song, while also shedding light on their views on music, creation and the Eurovision spectacle. Former representatives of the Eurovision Song Contest will also be in the studio.

Immediately after the broadcast, excerpts of the competition songs will be published on YouTube, and the full songs will be published on MMC or the RTV 365 web portal.

As we have already reported, the winning song will be determined by first casting votes from five expert juries, and the two songs with the highest points will advance to the superfinal. The winner will ultimately be decided by the audience via telephone voting.

About EMA 2025

The Slovenian national final aka EMA 2025 will be held on Saturday 1 February with a total of 12 acts battling for the golden ticket to Basel.

EMA 2025 will consist of two rounds:

• Round #1– A total of five juries will evaluate the competing songs and cast their votes. The top two songs will proceed to the next round aka the Superfinal.
• Round #2– The top two songs after the 5 jury deliberation will battle against each another at the Superfinal and the Slovenian public will have the responsibility of selecting the 2025 Slovenian Eurovision and entry. The winning entry and act after the public televoting deliberation at the ‘Superfinal’ will represent Slovenia at ESC 2025.

Slovenia in Eurovision

Slovenia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993 with 1X Band and is yet to win the competition. The country’s best result in the contest is a 7th placing, achieved  in 1995 (Darja Svajger) and 2001 (Nusa Derenda).

Slovenia has competed 29 times in the contest since their debut in 1993, the country has partaken in the competition religiously every year with the exception of 1994 and 2000 when the nation was forced to stay out of the event due to the relegation rules of the contest back then.

In 2024 Raiven represented Slovenia at the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmo with her entry ‘Veronika‘.
