RUV, the Icelandic national broadcaster, has unveiled the Songvakepnnin 2025 hosts, format and dates.

Songvakepnnin 2025 will consist of three live televised shows ( 2 semi-finals and a Grand Final)  scheduled to be held on 08, 15 and 22 February. A total of 10 songs will be competing in the Icelandic national selection for Eurovision 2025.

  • 08/02/2025- Semi-final #1
  • 15/02/2025- Semi-final #2
  • 22/02/2025- Grand Final

RUV received a total of 110 songs for Songvakeppnin 2025 and shorlisted them to ten songs. The Songvakepnnin 2025 competing entries and acts  will be unveiled on 17 January.

10 acts will partake in the Icelandic national selection; five acts in each semi-fimal, the top three acts from each semi-final will proceed to the Grand Final where 6 acts will battle for the golden ticket to Eurovision 2025. The 2025 Icelandic Eurovision entry and act will be determined via a 50/50 combined televoting/international jury deliberation.

RUV has scrapped the Wild Card option at Songvakepnnin and the supefinal round in the Grand Final, hence six songs will be competing at the Grand Final instead of 5 songs- initially the top songs from each semi-final would proceed to the Grand Final whilst RUV would award a Wild Card to a fifth song.

Benedikt Valsson, Fannar Sveinsson and Guðrún Dís Emilsdóttir will have the grand honour of hosting the shows which will be held at the RVK Studios in Gufunes.
