Austria: ORF confirms internal selection for Eurovision 2019

ORF, the Austrian national broadcaster, has confirmed to ESCToday that Austria will opt for an internal selection in order to determine its 2019 Eurovision entry and representative.

The Austrians have opted for an internal selection in order to deliberate their Eurovision hopeful for a the third consecutive year, after the success of Nathan Trent and Cesar Sampson.

There is much anticipation regarding the 2019 Austrian Eurovision act, specially after Cesar’s massive impact in Lisbon. Austria won the jury vote with 271 points at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest and eventually placed 3rd after the combined jury/televote deliberation.

The Austrian broadcaster is expected to release more details and information on its 2019 Eurovision project and candidate in due course.

Austria joined Eurovision bandwagon in 1957 and has won the competition twice with Udo Jurgens (1966) and Conchita Wurst (2014).  The central European landlocked nation has participated 51 times in the contest and hosted the event twice in its majestic capital Vienna (1967, 2015).

In 2018 Austria selected Cesar Sampson via an internal selection in order to defend the Austrian colours at the Eurovision Song Contest with his entry Nobody but you. The multi talented Austrian artist placed 3rd in the Grand Final , winning the jury vote and giving Austria its third best result in the competition.
