Ukraine: Ruslana honored as a 2011 young global leader

The World Economic Forum today honoured Ruslana the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest winner as a Young Global Leader in 2011. The honour, bestowed each year by the Forum, recognises and acknowledges up to 200 outstanding young leaders from around the world for their professional accomplishments, commitment to society and potential to contribute to shaping the future of the world.

This year, 190 young leaders from 65 countries were honoured by the Forum for their outstanding leadership, professional accomplishments and commitment to society. Of the selected young leaders, 42 were from Europe, with Ruslana being one of two people from Ukraine to receive the honour in 2011.

After winning the award Ruslana said It is a great honour and an incredible responsibility to be among this select group of Young Global Leaders of the World Economic Forum. This means that my talent and my work have made a difference in someone’s life. I am humbled by this announcement and I will continue to dedicate all my music and all my wild energy to helping people to live better and more fulfilling lives in Ukraine and in the world.

Young Global Leaders are selected from a variety of sectors, such as business, government, academia, media, non-profit organizations and arts and culture from all regions of the world. Young Global Leaders engage in task forces that address specific challenges of public interest with the objective of shaping a better future.
