This year's Irish Eurovision entry Lipstick performed by Jedward has just entered the official Irish top 50 singles chart at number 2. The song was released by Universal as a CD single in Ireland and the United Kingdom today. Also, the runner-up of the Irish national final, Falling performed by Nikki Kavanagh has entered the chart at number 44.
Ireland selected Jedward as their Eurovision representative on February 11th, when five acts competed for the Irish ticket to Düsseldorf. Nikki Kavanagh, Bling, Don Mescall and the Vard Sisters have lost in favour of the twins. Although Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ) wereforced to change the voting procedure of Eurosong 2011, Jedward won the public vote and ranked 2nd in jury's opinion and eventually won the right to represent Ireland at the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.
Jedward's growing popularity in Ireland is underlined by the latest edition of the official Irish top 50 singles chart provided by IRMA. Lipstick entered the chart at number 2 and is expected to top next week's tables. The official CD single was released today by Universal in Ireland and the United Kingdom.
Also, Nikki Kavanagh's Eurovision bid entitled Falling peaked number 44 in its first week on the chart. The single is expected to be released by MRP in Ireland this week.
Ireland will compete in the second semi final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2011.
