Tragic news hit the Icelandic selection for Eurovision 2011. Sigurjón Brink, who was to compete at the third semifinal of Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins, has died last night. He was 36 years old.

Sigurjón died suddenly last night at home in Garðabæ, most probably because of a heart attack. He was 36 years old. The singer and composer leaves behind a wife and four children.

The singer was no strange to the Icelandic selections for Eurovision as he took part in the 2005 and 2010 editions of the competition. He was also selected to take part this year, at the third semifinal scheduled for January 29th. He also composed one of this year's competing entries.

RÚV has not yet announced whether he will be replaced by another singer, and should this happen, who will fill the place he leaves.

May Sigurjón Brink rest in peace. Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.
