The Czech Republic is the next country to fly to Portugal in order to film its Eurovision 2018 postcard. Mikolas Josef has travelled to the beautiful Portuguese village of Podence to shoot his postcard.

The delegations and participants of the 43 participating countries at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest will be travelling to Portugal prior to the contest in order to film their respective presentation postcards. Each artist will be portrayed in an activity or a challenge.

The postcards will showcase the beauty of Portugal and will portray the Eurovision artists enjoying the sights and sounds of the host country.

The presentation postcards serve as a massive platform for the host country to promote its tourism and showcase itself on a global scale as millions of viewers tune in to watch Europe’s favorite television show. The Eurovision Song Contest reaches households beyond Europe, from Australia to Argentina, from China to New Zealand, from USA to India etc.

The Czech Postcard

Mikolas Josef, the 2018 Czech Eurovision representative, spent a few days in Portugal to film his Eurovision postcard and had the opportunity to celebrate the traditional Portuguese carnival in Trás-os-Montes.

In the village of Podence, in Macedo de Cavaleiros, Mikolas met up with a group of caretos, traditional figures of this carnival. Dressed in their usual colorful fringed suits and iconic masks with large noses, the caretos surrounded the artist and walked with him through the village’s streets, preaching matches and displaying the rattles that they wear to the waist.

Mikolas Josef was very pleased after filming his postcard:

It is very good that the artists coexist with the inhabitants of each place and with the traditions and customs of Portugal. This serves not only to promote the country but also to create memories that will last forever. I really enjoyed myself in Macedo de Cavaleiros with a fantastic team!
