Conchita Wurst became an international superstar when she won the Eurovision Song Contest in Copenhagen four years ago, and later this month she returns to Danish soil for their national final, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2018.
Conchita Wurst, now known simply as Conchita following a surname-drop, is set to return to the country which saw her Eurovision 2014 victory, Denmark, to appear at the upcoming Danish Eurovision national final, Dansk Melodi Grand Prix (DMGP) 2018.
The news was confirmed by the Danish national broadcaster, DR.
DR Entertainment Manager, Jan Lagermand Lundme, said of Conchita’s Danish return:
It is a great pleasure to welcome Conchita back to Denmark. She is an icon of the Eurovision story and in many ways an exponent of all that the Melodi Grand Prix and Eurovision represent. Namely a message about community, music and diversity in Europe. I am looking forward to the reaction she will receive from the Danish fans in Aalborg.
Since winning the Eurovision Song Contest 2014, Conchita has become an ambassador for the LGBTQ movement, attended meetings with political leaders to discuss such issues and performed at numerous Pride events across the globe.
On Saturday 10 February, the Danish representative at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon will be chosen Gigantium in Aalborg.
