Gerard James Borg, the five time winner of the Maltese national final as a lyric writer aced it in Iceland with the new hit single I don't do boys performed by Electra.
He penned this song with Smar and Magnusson. Borg says that this song is the talk of town and storming the charts in Iceland. The creative concept has received successful critical acclaim and appreciation despite the controversial video clip released few days ago. The video has already charted at number 8.
This project in Iceland is not Gerard’s first collaboration in the country as in 2008 the Maltese writer was involved in the Manicure Project as a concept designer together with Icelandic composer Hallgrimur Oskarsson. The song I wanna manicure performed by the Hara Sisters did not manage to qualify from the heat, facing direct competition from the Euroband who eventually won the selection and representend the country in Belgrade.
Borg also wrote the lyrics for the song White nights composed by Philip Kirkorov. Russian pop star Dima Bilan was reported to compete with this song in the Russian final as he was planning to make a return in the Eurovision Song Contest following his victory in 2008.
Gerard James Borg is considered to be as one of the successful writers in Malta with the majority of his musical projects in Malta are linked to his working partner Philip Vella. His latest Eurovision competing entry was Vodka performed by Morena two years ago.
