The show

Hosted by Assi Azar and Rotem Sela, tonight will see artists from across the country of Israel performing and auditioning for the place in the competition, with hopes of representing the nation at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.

Being judged and voted for by a combined public and jury vote, each of tonight’s acts will need to receive a total of 70% of the ‘Yes’ vote in order to proceed in the selection, with up to a potential 40% coming from the 4-member jury panel.

The judging members consist of the following:

  • Static & Ben-El Tavori: Israeli musical pop group
  • Keren Peles: Israeli singer-songwriter, poetess and a pianist
  • Harel Skaat: Israel singer-songwriter; former representative at Eurovision 2010
  • Assaf Amdursky: Israeli singer, songwriter and music producer

As we have seen in 2 previous shows, this year’s Next Star selection gives the 2 hosts the option to save a potential act from elimination if the artist fails to receive 70% of the ‘Yes’ vote, meaning that act will be given the chance to advance in the contest.

How many more acts will qualify from the fifth show of The Next Star? Stay tuned for the results of tonight’s show later this evening!
