LIVE

The show has just started with a short recap of what has happend in last week's first semi final.

Tonight's hosts welcome the audience with a frantic dance.

1. Eric SaadeManboy

Current esctoday.com poll result: 1st (28.0%)

Eric Saade, Molly Sandén's (last place in last year's final of Melodifestivalen with Så vill stjärnorna) boyfriend, debuts at Melodifestivalen with Manboy, a song written by Fredrik Kempe. Typically for Kempe's songs, the lyrics are incredibly minimalistic. Besides the weird title Manboy, the mentioning of the word "halo", probably inspired by Beyoncé's smash hit does not change that at all.

Unfortunately, the song itself has not been inspired by Beyoncé's Halo, it is a rather typical Melodifestivalen entry, the kind of song which doesn't fare well in the Eurovision Song Contest. Nevertheless, Eric's vocals are quite strong. The performance features a lot of dancers, Eric plays his roll very well and even gets wet at the end of the song, which will definitely cause plenty of teenage girls to pick up their phones for him.

2. Andra Generationen & Dogge DoggelitoHippare hoppare

Current esctoday.com poll result: 8th (4.2%)

Together with Dogge, Andra Generationen, known for their participation in the 2008 edition of Melodifestivalen with Kebabpizza Slivovitza, take us to the Balkans with their song Hippare hoppare. This mixture of ethno elements, Reggae and hip-hop can hardly stand a real chance at becoming Sweden's song for the Eurovision Song Contest. Still, the group looks ready to perform on any gypsy party with this catchy tune.

3. Anna-Maria Espinosa Innan alla ljusen brunnit ut

Current esctoday.com poll result: =4th (9.5%)

Now it's time for a slower song. Anna-Maria Espinosa performs Inna ljusen brunnit ut, tonight's first ballad. The stage changes to blue, very suitable for ballads. Anna-Mara's black outfit looks quite strange and doesn't compliment her figure. Furthermore, her song remains way too indifferent to make a real impact.

4. MiSt & HighlightsCome and get me now

Current esctoday.com poll result: =4th (9.5%)

Come and get me now is the song that won Melodifestivalen's online voting, thus becoming the so-called Web Wildcard, a new feature in the competition, aiming at giving a chance to those people who have never been able to publish any music before. It will be interesting to see how far this one can go. The group's vocal performance is quite pleasant throughout the entire song, optically it's also quite pleasing with hearts being displayed on the screens. One of tonight's better entries, still, overall it is probably too mediocre.

5. Pauline Sucker for love

Current esctoday.com poll result: =2nd (15.9%)

Soul and R'n'B artist Pauline was the fourth wildcard, the last of Sweden's acts to be revealed. Her genre is very unusual for an entry in Melodifestivalen, thus making her participation rather exciting. Just like Pauline's song, she is behaving in a quite playful way on stage, wearing a pink dress and stockings. Her bone- shaped hairdo makes her look a bit like one of the Flinstones, which also suits her really well. A nice performance.

6. Andreas JohnsonWe can work it out

After a 3rd place in 2006, a second place in 2007 and a massive flop in 2008 together with Carola Häggkvist, Andreas Johnson is back at Meldofestivalen with the ballad We can work it out. Due to this semi final being quite weak, the chances are wide open for Andreas Johnson. Still, his song is certainly not the srongest, it is one of those songs that have been heard various times before and doesn't really go anywhere. One might have expected something stronger for his come back, especially after the 2008 debacle. The audience seems to like it a lot, turning into a sea of lights.

7. Kalle Moraeus & Orsa SpelmänUnderbart

Kalle Moraeus & Orsa Spelmän's Underbart is a folksy ballad in Swedish. The group, as well as the backing singers are all dressed in black. The song and its melancholic feeling are being delievered rather well, but despite all the violins, this act probably won't be much of a competition for Alexander Rybak.

8. Hanna LindbladManipulated

Hanna Lindblad concludes tonight's semi final with Manipulated, an ordinary electric- disco kind of song, which becomes very repetitve and goes nowhere. Hanna and her dancers look like they are ready to play in some bondage movie. Generally speaking, after having watched all of tonight's performances, it is hard to believe that the winner of this year's Melodifestivalen might come from this semi final.

The results of the first round are about to come in.

The bottom three that are eliminated are: Andra Generationen, Anna-Maria Espinosa and MiSt & Highlights.

The winner of the first round is: Eric Saade. He directly qualifies for the national final.

The results of the second round are about to come in.

Andreas Johnson qualified for the final. Pauline and Kalle Moraeus & Orsa Spelmänqualified for the second chance round.
