Hungary: MTVA confirms participation in Eurovision 2018

MTVA, the Hungarian national broadcaster, has confirmed that Hungary will participate at the forthcoming 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon next May.

Hungary will yet again select its Eurovision entry and act via its traditional national selection A Dal. The broadcaster has opened the submission period for artists to submit their entries in order to enter the competition with the deadline set on 15 November.

In 2017, Hungary sent Joci Pápai to the Eurovision Song Contest with his his ethno-influenced entry Origo. The talented Hungarian achieved a 8th place in the Grand Final, thus giving Hungary its 3rd best result in the contest.

Hungary in Eurovision

Hungary debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994 with Frederika Bayer and is yet to win the event.

The country’s best placing in the contest was achieved the very same year it debuted in the competition, namely in 1994 when Frederika Bayer placed 4th with her entry Kinek mondjam al vetkeimet.

Eurovision 2018

The 2018 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 8, 10 and 12 May in Lisbon, Portugal.

The deadline for broadcasters to officially apply for Eurovision 2018 concluded on 15 September. Hereafter, countries have a grace period until 10 October to confirm their participation or withdraw their application without a penalty.

The final list of the 2018 Eurovision participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU later during the year.
