Just over two weeks after the Grand Final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2017, speculation about participants for the 2018 edition in Portugal are beginning. Dutch artist Alain Clark is about to release new musical material and repeats his willingness to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision.
Charismatic singer Alain Clark will release his latest single Kiss you the same on 2 June, taken from his upcoming new album. The Dutch artist signed with the American record label Concord Music in 2015, and has been working in Los Angeles on his forthcoming album for the last two-and-a-half years, collaborating with well-known producers such as Josh Gudwin, and being involved with the successful album Purpose by superstar Justin Bieber.
Alain Clark for Eurovision 2018?
Alain Clark’s upcoming album is not only a return to the spotlights, the singer also hopes that it will lead to a breakthrough on the American music market. Moreover, he has stated previously that he would definitely represent the Netherlands at Eurovision if he were asked by broadcaster AVROTROS.
In an interview with magazine NU.nl, he stated:
I am always available for the Eurovision Song Contest, although for me the emphasis right now is on my new album. But if they want me, they have my number.
We will have to wait and see what broadcaster AVROTROS will decide, although it is fairly certain that the Netherlands will be part of Eurovision 2018 in Portugal.
Although the procedure for selecting the 2018 representative is as yet unknown, a public national selection seems highly unlikely, given that the Netherlands have had success in recent years with internally selected artists.
Most likely, AVROTROS will again select the artist, or perhaps a composer will be approached to write a song, and an artist will be chosen for that composition. Any official news will be released through AVROTROS’ social media.
Alain Clark’s Eurovision connection
Alain Clark is no stranger to the world of Eurovision. He was one of the potential candidates to represent the Netherlands at Eurovision 2015, although broadcaster AVROTROS favoured Trijntje Oosterhuis with the song Walk along, written by Anouk (Eurovision 2013).
Alain Clark worked on musical material for Trijntje Oosterhuis, and also participated in the Eurovision 2017 Songwriting Camp initiated by girl band OG3NE, who represented the Netherlands at Eurovision 2017, reaching a decent 11th place in the Grand Final with their entry Lights and shadows.
OG3NE covered Alain Clark’s song Change will come during The Voice Of Holland 2014, which the girls eventually won, and the singer musically accompanied them on stage.
