Belgian Flemish broadcaster VRT, responsible for Belgium's 2010 Eurovision Song Contest entry has told esctoday.com's partner website Belgovision.com that they are close to completing their planning for how they will select their song for the competition in Oslo. As reported in September, the broadcaster is not keen to follow the multi-week series format it has used in recent years.
VRT has been consulting various representatives within the music industry about the best way to select the Belgian candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest in Oslo. "The intensive exploration exercise that our people have held in recent months, is coming to an end," Björn Verdoodt, Head of Communications of VRT's first channel Eén, informed www.belgovision.com.
"But for sure there is no final decision on the Eurovision Song Contest and how we'll go to Oslo yet," Björn Verdoodt adds. The decision phase is nearing however. "I foresee a big chance that the management of Eén will come out with more news before mid-December. Until then, any messages on decisions or dates of press conferences remain premature and speculative, I fear."
Belgium finished in 2nd place at the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest, but have never qualified for the Eurovision Song Contest final since the introduction of semi finals.
