The nominations for the 2009 esctoday.com National Final Awards are underway. The polls for the pre-nominations are closed and it is now time to determine the eventual nominees.

In the first round, two polls were held for all countries with a national final. One poll was the for songs, the second one for the performances. One act or song per country made it to the second round in each category. If a country cannot be nominated in a category, it means that either no song or act took part that matches the creteria for the category or that not enough votes were counted for a fitting entry to justify a nomination. Furthermore, the nominations for the awards honouring the shows are now open.

The top five in each category will be nominated for an esctoday.com National Final Award. The only exception is the "best song" category – the top eight songs will get a nomination there.
