The six-times Dora participant Jaques Houdek has expressed his will to fly the Croatian flag in Kyiv during the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, according to the Croatian newspaper 24 Sata. The Croatian broadcaster HRT did not confirm the information but also did not deny that it could be Jacques who will be chosen internally after failing to win the televotes time after time.
According to Jacques, he managed to convince the key people in HRT to choose him to represent Croatia. “I don’t know anything about that“, said Mihovil Bek, Jacques’ Manager.
Jacques Houdek has participated in Dora, the Croatian national selection, every year between 2002 and 2006 as well as in 2011, when he finished 2nd to Daria Kinzer who went on to represent the country in Düsseldorf. His most viewed clip on YouTube features one of the songs he participated with in Dora 2011, Stotinama godina:
Jacques was one of the mentors in the first season of The Voice Croatia – Najljepši glas Hrvatske with Nina Kraljić on his team. She represented Croatia in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, reaching 23rd with Lighthouse.
Dora 2011 marked also the last national selection of Croatia so far, as the country opted for internal selections in 2012, 2013 and 2016. Except for the confirmation of participation, the Croatian broadcaster HRT is yet to officially reveal its plans for the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest, but they are highly likely to go internal again.
