TRM, the Moldovan national broadcaster has confirmed to ESCToday its participation at the forthcoming 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv next May.

TRM is yet to determine the mechanism it will use in order to select its Eurovision entry and act for Kyiv. It is more than likely that Moldova will once again use its national selection in order to deliberate its Eurovision representative and song. More details will be disclosed in due course.

In 2016  Moldova selected its Eurovision act and song for Stockholm via a national selection. Lidia Isac was awarded the golden ticket to represent Moldova at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest with her entry Falling stars . Despite an energetic performance Moldova failed to qualify to the grand final.

Moldova debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2005 and is yet to win the contest. The country’s best placing was a 6th place in 2005 when it debuted at the 2005 Eurovision Song Contest in Kiev with Zdob Si Zdub‘s Bunika Bate Toba!

Moldova has not missed a single contest since its debut in 2005, having competed a total of 11 times in the event.

With Moldova in the house, 40 countries have so far confirmed their intention to participate at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.

The period for countries to apply for participation at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest concluded on 15 September. Hereafter applicant countries had a grace period until 10 October to decide if they were to stay or not in the competition without facing a financial penalty.

The final and confirmed list of the ESC 2017 participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU by the end of the year.

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held on 9, 11 and 13 May at the International Exhibition Center in Kyiv.
