FYR Macedonia: MRT confirms participation in Eurovision 2017

MRT, the national broadcaster of FYR Macedonia has confirmed to ESCToday that FYR Macedonia will participate at the forthcoming 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv.

FYR Macedonia is yet to determine the mechanism it will use to select the 2017 Macedonian Eurovision entry and act for Kyiv. More information will be released in due course.

In 2016 FYR Macedonia opted for an internal selection in order to choose its Eurovision act and entry for Stockholm. Kaliopi returned to the contest for the 2nd time with her entry Dona. Despite an extraodinary performance the country failed to qualify to the grand final.

The mechanism MRT will use to select FYR Macedonia’s Eurovision entry is yet to be determined. More information and details will be released in due course.

FYR Macedonia debuted at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1998 and is yet to win the event. The country’s best result in the competition was achieved in 2006, when it placed 12th in Athens.

With FYR Macedonia in the house, 29 countries have so far confirmed their intention to participate at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest.

The period for countries to apply for participation at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest concludes on 15 September. Hereafter applicant countries have a grace period until 10 October to decide if they are to stay or not in the competition without facing a financial penalty.

The final and confirmed list of the ESC 2017 participating countries is expected to be released by the EBU by late December/early January

The 2017 Eurovision Song Contest is scheduled to be held at the IEC in Kyiv on 9, 11 and 13 May.
