Dutch broadcaster AVROTROS will decide who will represent the Netherlands at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest in Kyiv, Ukraine, in October.
Daniël Dekker (DJ, former Eurovision commentator and spokesperson for broadcaster AVROTROS) gave the following statement to local TV-channel Omroep Brabant:
It is a big difference from previous years, then we were already happy when we found one respectable artist. Now we have the luxury that we can choose from several good performers. We have the opportunity to make a strategic choice.
Daniël Dekker responded to Omroep Brabant, because the girl group O’G3NE resides in the Dutch province North-Brabant. The three sisters Lisa, Amy and Shelley Vol have been named as potential Eurovision candidates for a while now, although the girls recently stated in the TV-show RTL Boulevard that they had not yet been contacted by AVROTROS.
As Lisa, Amy & Shelley, they already partook in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2007 in Rotterdam, and the group won the fifth season of the popular TV-show The Voice Of Holland in December 2014. In 2016, they also participated in the TV-show De Beste Zangers Van Nederland (The Best Singers Of The Netherlands). O’G3NE’s new album We got this will be released 30 September 2016.
Other names that have been circulating as potential Dutch Eurovision 2017 candidates include Alain Clark, Caro Emerald, Ilse DeLange, Sharon Doorson, Waylon, among others.
AVROTROS has not revealed with which artists they are negotiating. The decision will reportedly be made in October, although it is not clear if the participant will be officially presented to the public then as well.
The choice for Douwe Bob, who represented the Netherlands at the 2016 ESC in Stockholm, Sweden, already leaked in September 2015.
