Tonight, Slovakia will kick off its televised selection for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with the first semi final of Eurosong being aired. Ten acts will compete for the three tickets to the national final.

The show

The show to be broadcast on STV hosted by Martin Rausch will start at 20:15 CET and it will be broadcast live from Bratislava. Ten acts will present one song each and three of them will move forward to the national final on 8th March. Two songs will be chosen by televoting and the third one by teh jury.

Slovakia will return to the Eurovision Song Contest after eleven years. The last participation to date came in 1998, when Katarina Hasprová finished 21st with her entry Modlitba getting eight points in total and all of them from Croatia. In 2009, the country will take part in the second semi final on 14th May.
