Tonight, the first semifinal of the Spanish selection for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest took place. Ten acts presented one song each. Three of them were chosen by a mixture of jury vote and televote to proceed to the final, scheduled for the 7th of March. The fourth placed song will enter the second chance round.

The following acts made it to the national final:

• Melody y Los Vivancos – Amante de la Luna
• La La Love You – Dame un beso
• Noelia Cano – Cruza los dedos

• Gran Baobab – Despedida de soltero

The results of the poll which asked the esctoday.com readers about their favourite act tonight are similar to the official outcome of the first semifinal. Our readers agreed with the Spanish audience on the first and third places, with Melody y Los Vivancos topping the poll (40.8%) and Noelia Cano in third place but far away from Melody with 7.1%. Our visitors were also quite confident about Yulia Valentayn's qualification, but the singer, born in Siberia, did not manage to qualify, placing 6th overall tonight. The runner-up, La La Love You, ended up 4th in our poll, with 6.1% of the vote.
