United Kingdom: three acts to the national final

The third elimination show and hence semi final in the United Kingdom's selection for the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest was held tonight. Four acts each performed two international hits and the televoters sent the top two directly to the next round. Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber than decided who of the bottom two contestants was eliminated from the show.

Those were the top three entrants as decided by the televoters:

  • The Twins
  • Mark

From the remaining two acts, Andrew Lloyd Webber decided that the Jade remains in the competition while Emperours of Soul were eliminated.

The line-up for the national final next week will hence be:

  • The Twins
  • Mark
  • Jade

The esctoday.com poll voters agreed with the choice as the Emperours of Soul were last in the poll with only 5.5%. However, it has to be mentioned that Jade won the poll again by a landslide with 53.8% but was seen in the bottom two by the televoters. Mark and the twins were second and third with 27.5% and 13.2% respectively.

The United Kingdom was represented in the 2008 Eurovision Song Contest by Andy Abraham, who finished equal 23rd and therefore last with Even if. Nevertheless, the country is directly qualified for the final of the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest because of the 'big4' rule.
