Aysel was officially announced yesterday as the Azerbaijani representative in the Eurovision Song Contest. Little is known so far about the nineteen year old artist who has impressed the special jury appointed by the broadcaster. Today, the first video from the auditions of has been released and we can get an idea of the lady to fly the Azerbaijani flag in Moscow.

During the official presentation yesterday in Baku, Aysel said that the Eurovision Song Contest is her top priority now and everything else has to wait: "I woke up famous this morning! Now I will focus solely on Eurovision, and my previously planned project with Isa Melikov will be realised after the contest. If I am split between them, I won't succeed in any."

"Participation of such stars as Sakis Rouvas andHadise in the contest further encourages me. I am confident in myself, I believe in the team which is preparing me, and I will do everything in my power to justify their confidence and represent my homeland with dignity!" said Aysel, "Last year Azerbaijan was represented by Elnur & Samir – they are talented guys, and I believe that they deserved the first place. But I will do everything possible to improve from their performance. I will be the first!"

Aysel also spoke about her background and family: "I grew up in the family of intellectuals. My father is a journalist, for a long time he was the head of the Department of Philosophy at the University of Languages. Mom is Ph.D and she worked in the Slavic University. I am the youngest in the family – my older sisters are 35 and 33 years. I participated in a televised contest "Yeni Ulduz 4", after which I was recognised on streets, for a year I was living and studying in the United States but success has not changed me at all, my friends say that I even became more modest."

During the auditions in front of the ITV special jury, Aysel performed a song by international star Beyonce: "She is my idol, I love everything that this singer does on stage. For a long time I have been involved in dance, and I have studied not only contemporary music, but also folk, Azerbaijani. Modern show business requires more knowledge from the performer, and I try to keep pace with the times."

Thanks to Johnny Logan and Hold me now I fell in love with the Eurovision Song Contest, a love that's been going strong ever since with undiminished passion. My first memories date back to 1977 and the lyrics of Rock bottom, Dschinghis Khan and A ba ni bi are still engraved in my brain.

I joined esctoday.com in 2006 as a junior editor after being invited by Barry Viniker, I soon became Senior Editor and during the 2007 contest in Helsinki I was appointed Head of Communications. Today I hold the post of Head of Human Resources and I am proud to be working with the best editorial team in the world.
