Benny Anderssons grandsons Charlie and Felix Grönvall are hoping to represent Denmark at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest.
The brothers are part of the band Bracelet, and are hoping to win Dansk Melodi Grand Prix when it is held in Horsens on 13 February. They’ll compete with the song, Breakaway, which they describe as ‘arena pop’.
It’s an uptempo song with a lot of energy, Charlie told journalists in Denmark. We’re going for big emotions.
Charlie and Felix both had a hand in writing Breakaway, along with fellow band-member Rebecca Krogmann. Also listed in the song-writing credits are Jimmy Jansson, who competed in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen in 2007, and Charlie and Felix’s mum, Nanne Grönvall.
Like Jimmy Jansson, Nanne Grönvall has also competed in Sweden’s Melodifestivalen, although she has done so no fewer than seven times. She won the competition as part of the group One More Time in 1996, and finished third in that year’s Eurovision Song Contest with the song Den Vilda. Her most recent appearance at Melodifestivalen was in 2007 when her song Jag maste kyssa dig made it to the Second Chance Round.
Charlie and Felix are Nanne’s sons from her husband, Peter Grönvall, who was also part of the band One More Time. Peter is Benny Andersson’s son by his first girlfriend, Christina. Which makes Charlie and Felix his grandsons.
As part of the band Abba, Benny Andersson won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974 with the song Waterloo. The band went on to success around the globe, and their music is loved by millions to this day. So Charlie and Felix have some big boots to fill!
