The third annual esctoday.com awards are currently being held. While you can still cast your votes until 23rd December, we will take a closer look on the nominees and the categories every day in random order. Part three is dedicated to the Best male vocal performance category.
History
This award was introduced last year. Roger Cicero from Germany won the award for his performance of Frauen regieren die Welt getting more than ten percent votes more than runner-up Eiríkur Hauksson from Iceland. The complete results were as follows:
- Roger Cicero(Germany) – 35%
- Eiríkur Hauksson (Iceland) – 25%
- Bonaparti.lv (Latvia) – 18%
- Hayko (Armenia) – 15%
- Frederik Ndoci (Albania) – 7%
2008 awards
The following acts are nominated this year:
- Boaz Mauda of Israel for The fire in your eyes
- Simon Mathew of Denmark for All night long
- Andy Abraham of the United Kingdom for Even if
- Jeronimas Milius of Lithuania for Nomads in the night
- Ruslan Alekhno of Belarus for Hasta la vista

Boaz Mauda from Israel began singing at the age of five. In 2007, he was signed up by a friend to take part in the fifth season of Kokhav Nolad, the Israeli edition of Pop Idol. In August 2007, he won the season ahead of other two finalists getting about 50% of the votes. In 2008, he was chosen internally to represent his country in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Another talent show contestant is Simon Mathew from Denmark: In 2005 he won the first prize in Scenen er din. His first album was released the same year and in 2007, he recorded the Danish version of the song You are the music in me from Disney’s High School Musical, together wit his sister Rebekka, who is also a successful singer in Denmark.
Andy Abraham represented the United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest having already placed in second in the talent sear The X factor, where he was mentored by Sharon Osbourne. His first album was a success on the charts and was certified platinum. Rumours came up in August that he would retire from the music business, but this turned out to be untrue as he is currently back on tour.
Lithuania's hopeful Jeronimas Milius has been front singer of the heavy metal group Soul Brothers since 2003. Between 2004 and 2006, he took singing lessons and in 2006, he took part in the Lithuanian national final as a backing singer for Aistė Pilvelytė, who finished second. In 2008, he won the first semi final by a landslide and then placed a few votes ahead of Aistė Pilvelytė in the final.
Ruslan Alekhno, who reperesented Belraus, won the second season of the Russian talent show Narodniy artists. He was the clear winner of the Eurofest semi final with 6089 votes and in the final, the jury gave him the ticket to Belgrade. He is a good friend of Dmitry Koldun, who represented Belrausin 2007and achieved the country's best result so far.
